The production process and five characteristics of glass fiber

一、Glass fiber production process

Fibers glass, a reinforcing Fibra de vidrio compuesta and metal replacement material. The diameter of the monofilament is several microns to twenty microns, which is equivalent to 1/20-1/5 of a hair, and each bundle of fiber strands is composed of hundreds or even thousands of monofilaments.

Fiberglass pre preg has the characteristics of non-combustibility, corrosion resistance, heat insulation, good sound insulation, high tensile strength, good electrical insulation, etc. It has a wide range of uses and is widely used in construction, automobiles, ships, chemical pipelines, rail transit, wind power and other fields Broad application prospects.

There are two kinds of glass fiber production processes: two-time forming – crucible drawing method, one forming – pool kiln drawing method.

The crucible drawing method has many processes. First, the glass raw material is melted into glass balls at high temperature, and then the glass balls are melted for a second time, and then drawn at high speed to make roving. This process has various disadvantages such as high energy consumption, unstable molding process, and low labor productivity, and is basically eliminated by large glass fiber manufacturers.

The pool kiln drawing method melts raw materials such as pyrophyllite into a glass solution in a kiln, removes air bubbles and transports it to a porous bushing through a passage, and draws it into a glass fiber strand at a high speed. The kiln can connect hundreds of bushings through multiple channels for simultaneous production. This process is simple, energy-saving and consumption-reducing, stable in molding, high-efficiency and high-yield, and is convenient for large-scale fully automated production. It has become an international mainstream production process. Fiberglass quoins produced by this process account for more than 90% of the global output.

二、The five characteristics of glass fiber

1.Safety and environmental protection, protect the health of workers

Glass fiber has strong tensile strength, no wrinkle, anti-vulcanization, smokeless, halogen-free, non-toxic, pure oxygen, non-combustible, and good insulating properties. After curing with silicone, its safety and environmental performance can be further improved. Effectively protect the human health of workers and reduce the occurrence of occupational diseases. Unlike asbestos products, it is extremely harmful to humans and the environment.

2.Excellent temperature resistance

The surface of fiberglass thermal insulation contains both “organic groups” and “inorganic structures”. This special composition and molecular structure allows it to combine the properties of organic matter with the function of inorganic matter. Compared with other polymer materials, it stands out for its high temperature resistance. The silicon-oxygen (Si-O) bond is the main chain structure, and the bond energy of the CC bond is 82.6 kcal/g and the bond energy of the Si-O bond is 121 kcal/g in the silicone resin, so the thermal stability is high, and the The chemical bonds of molecules do not break or disintegrate under high temperature (or radiation exposure). Silicone is not only resistant to high temperature but also low temperature, and can be used in a wide temperature range. It does not change with temperature, either in chemical or physical-mechanical properties.

3.Anti-splash, multiple protection

In the smelting industry, the temperature of the medium in the electric furnace is extremely high, and high temperature spatters are easily formed (as in the electric welding industry). After cooling and solidifying, slag forms on the pipe or cable, which hardens the rubber on the outer layer of the pipe or cable and causes brittle fracture. In turn, unprotected equipment and cables can be damaged. After using multiple silicone-coated fiberglasss sleeves, multiple safety protections can be achieved and the high temperature melting of molten iron, copper and aluminum can be effectively prevented. splash water to avoid damage to surrounding cables and equipment.

4. Heat insulation, energy saving, anti-radiation

In a high temperature workshop, many pipes, valves or equipment have high internal temperatures. Burns or heat loss may result if not covered with protective material. Fiberglass has better thermal stability than other polymer materials, and is resistant to radiation and thermal insulation, preventing accidents, reducing energy consumption and preventing the direct transfer of heat from the medium in the pipe to the surrounding area. The environment overheats the workshop, which saves cooling costs.

5.Moisture-proof, oil-proof, weather-proof, pollution-proof, prolong the service life of the equipment

Glass fiber has strong chemical stability. Silicone will not react with oil, water, acid and alkali etc. At a temperature of 260°C, it can be used for a long time without aging. The service life of fiberglass waterproof in the natural environment can reach several decades. In this case, it can protect pipes, cables and equipment to a great extent and greatly prolong their use.
